Online Income Diary March 2011

*Originally transcribed 1 April 2011 this post failed to publish, like a hit recording lost in the studios archives it is making a late but perhaps timely appearance…

Online Income Diary – March 2011

Financially there is little to report for March 2011. Strategically I have made a big decision (and financial investment) that I believe will make an even bigger difference to my endeavours to seek an extra income.

My Squidoo earnings remain pretty constant and are a fair reflection of the amount of time I have invested in this income stream.

Internet Earnings – March 2011

Squidoo. $1.22

Total Earnings $1.22

Business Costs – March 2011

Site Build It! subscription $300.00

Balance -$301.22

SBI – A Big Financial Investment with Big Expectations

My experiences to date have led me to the conclusion that, to reach my income targets I must build and create a website in a potentially profitable niche. Considerable research has led me to believe that Site Build It! offers the best resources, tools and education for just that purpose.

I have made the initial financial investment and over the coming months will be working through the material to identify my niche, build a content based site, attract traffic and monetize my site.

I will continue to report my monthly progress and hope to find the time to share my view of the SBI! experience.

Squidoo Payday – Let’s Double It!

Bigger Goals, Bigger Achievements

Earn Money With Squidoo Payday

Yesterday I received my second Squidoo payday.  This occasion was made all the more joyous by the fact that my monthly earnings had almost doubled! Squidoo’s new payday reporting system told me that I’d doubled the bucks because I’d doubled my  number of Tier 2 lenses.

And so today I’m upping the ante.

Inspired by this success and Seth Godin’s Blog this morning – Make Big Plans – I have decided to trash my recent goal of $100 by end of April.

Seth’s words of wisdom remind us that the best way to make big things happen is to make big plans!

So, let’s double it!

My January online income reports almost $50 in the bank – I’m doubling it and aiming to report $100 for February.

To achieve this I am going to have to publish at least 5 articles with Demand Studios over the next 10 days.

But, that’s not all. Because I’m aiming to throw another double.

5 articles with Demand Studios, 10 lenses with Squidoo.  I’m challenging myself to publish 10 new Squidoo lenses in 20 days, aiming for ten quality lenses that achieve a minimum of Tier 2 status.

Stayed tuned to follow my progress and feel free to show your support with a quick comment below.

With thanks

Online Income Diary January 2011

As my quest to seek an extra income from home swings into full force I’ve decided it’s time I launched an online income diary. A monthly report of my internet earnings. I’m kicking off with January 2011 (a little later than I’d planned) and will be producing a report at the close of each month.

Online Income Diary – Jan 2011

Writing with Demand Studios was my main source of income for January 2011, adding $45 to my Paypal account.

I was also really pleased to receive my first Squidoo payday in January 2011, revenue share for lens performance in November 2011. As my payment was below the $1 threshold it remains in the hands of Squidoo however I’m pretty sure they’ll be handing it over in February 2011.

Internet Earnings – Jan 2011
$45.58

(I had wanted to show my monthly internet earnings in a table or spreadsheet format. I’ve since discovered that this is harder than it sounds. So I’m getting this post out there with a view to tackling the HTML next month!)

Building Passive Income – Plans for Feb 2011 and beyond

Internet Profit Systems – Current Goal

To double my money and report monthly internet earnings of $100 in April 2011 .

Better get to it!

I Made More Than $66 in 66 Days.

$66 Income from Home Challenge – Late Payments

I’ve done it! I’ve achieved my goal of making $66 in 66 Days, I fact I’ve surpassed it.

The last of my challenge articles has been approved by Demand Studios. Entitled “A Checklist Early Language Development” this article generated a one-off fee of $15 taking my running total from $59.58  to $74.58.

I’m really excited to have reached my objective and am looking forward to tackling my next income from home challenge;

How quickly can this stay at home Mum create  a regular $66 per week?

(answers on the back of a postcard or in the comments section below)

My First $66 Income From Home

Day 66 – $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge

The $66  Internet Profit Systems Challenge is over. 66 days have passed and this first chapter in my quest to earn an extra income from home is closed.

So, how did  I do? Did I launch my career as an internet entrepreneur by making my first $66?

The $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge – The story so far;
Total Spend : $1.00

When I launched the $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge I was seeking to attract traffic and create backlinks to this blog and my Squidoo page : Income from Home – The $66 Challenge. As part of my efforts I paid $1 to submit a press release to a distribution service.  This is the only cash investment I have made in my attempt to start to earn an extra income working from home.

Earnings at  Day 66 :    $30.58

On the final day of the $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge I have made the grand total of $30.58.

58 cents was my first payment from the revenue share site Squidoo. Read all about my first Squidoo payday.

The lions share of my extra income – $30 – has come from articles I have written for Demand Studios.  At a rate of $15 per article my first two articles were published via Demand Studios on the eHow website. Once accepted by Demand Studios I have found writing for eHow to be a reliable, efficient and relatively easy way to start earning an extra income.  As examples of the kind of work you can pick up through Demand Studios my first two published articles were:

How to Reduce Home Delivery of Junk Mail

and

How to Make Quick Cash with No Outlay

Balance at Day 66 : $29.58

But wait…..

Although the $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge finished on Day 66 (31st January 2011) I had not yet been paid for all of the work that I have completed during the 66 day period.

A further $30 from Demand Studios

On the 31st January 2011 I had 3 articles outstanding with Demand Studios, this means that my writing has been submitted for review by the Demand Studios editors and is pending acceptance.

I’m happy to say that in the few days since 31st January two of these articles have been accepted adding a further $30 to the income from home pot.

I am still awaiting news on my final article.

Two Squidoo Paydays Remain

Beyond this extra income from Demand Studios I have the pleasure of two further Squidoo Paydays.  Like most revenue share sites Squidoo pay in arrears.  The $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge ran through December 2010 to the end of January 2011.  I will be paid monthly revenue share for the performance of my  Squidoo lenses during these months on 15th February and 15th March respectively.

$59.58 and counting…

And so the story continues, will my final article for Demand Studios be accepted, rejected or returned for a rewrite? How much will the next two Squidoo Paydays add to the income from home pot?

On 15th March 2011 the final tally will be made and the book will close on the $66 in 66 Days Internet Profit Systems Challenge.

Squidoo payday

Day 59 – $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge

I got paid! This month I was the happy recipient of my first Squidoo payday and last night I made my first online sale, netting a proportion of the royalty payment from Amazon.

As my Squidoo earnings begin to take flight I thought I would  give some insight into the inner workings of  the Squidoo payday demonstrating just how easy it is to start to build an extra income with this user friendly site.

How Can I Make Money with Squidoo?

Amongst other things Squidoo is a revenue share site. This means that Squidoo lensmasters (the people who spend time creating, publishing and promoting Squidoo pages) earn a percentage of the total advertising revenue Squidoo.com earns from Adsense, Infolink and Chitika (inclusion in the Infolink and Chitika revenue share is optional).

Every month,  on or near the 15th  (it’s always early and never late) it’s Squidoo payday and how much a lensmaster earns depends upon the performance or average ranking of each of their lenses. A lenses ranking is determined by many factors but in the simplest terms lensmasters improve the ranking of their lenses by attracting plenty of visitors, boasting high levels of participation and being an active member of the Squidoo community.

How Quickly Can I Earn Money with Squidoo?

As soon as they have been live for a month, lenses qualify for the revenue share program and exactly 3 months after the publication of the first lens new squids will enjoy the first of many Squidoo paydays.

Like most revenue share sites Squidoo pay their members in arrears. This means that the January 2011 Squidoo payday related to site activity for the period 1st – 30th November 2010.

I launched two of my first lenses in October 2010, these qualified for the Squidoo revenue share program in November 2010 and as a result when the January 2011 Squidoo payday arrived I saw money in my account!

What About Commission From Sites Like Amazon?

Every Squidoo lens offers the opportunity to earn an affiliate payment through the sale of products on Amazon, eBay, Zazzle and iTunes. Simple modules allow lensmasters to easily promote relevant products from any of these sites. Every time a reader clicks from a lens through to make a purchase the lensmaster receives a commission or royalty payment.

Amazon is the best way to make an extra income on Squidoo. The site makes it really easy to incorporate relevant products, write your own personalized recommendations and ultimately benefit from any sales.

Every time a lens makes an Amazon sale the creator receives a 4.25% royalty payment.  As a comparison most individual small Amazon affiliates, people who open their own personal accounts, start in the 4% sales tier on Amazon. It takes a lot of work and a huge amount of sales to reach Amazon’s 6% tier.

Last night I made my first Amazon sale through Squidoo from a lens that I  created just two months ago on the 26th November 2010.  I have to say it was a very exciting discovery!

It takes time to establish a residual income

Holiday’s are coming, passive income is waiting!

Day 18 – $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge

It’s that time of year again; the end of the school year, the long Christmas break, a hectic social calendar and an even busier todo list! Not that I am complaining, I love this time of year, a celebration of family and friendship.

There’s just one problem. I am nowhere near reaching my $66 target, in fact I am currently in the red! Unlike more established Internet entrepreneurs my Internet profit systems are not creating a passive income. This means that whilst I am holidaying, my internet profit systems will not be purring away in the background generating a residual income 24 hours a day.

In fact, worse than that. As a newbie my sites and webpages do not yet have an established network of backlinks neither is their presence established on search engines such as Google. What does this mean? After just 3 days away from the PC, I’ve noticed that my hard earned rankings and ratings have dropped! What, dare I wonder will the impact of 2 or 3 weeks be?

As previously stated the purpose of this project is to prove that a stay at home Mum can earn an extra income through Internet profit systems. As a stay at home Mum my family comes first, my time with them is precious and so, what’s the plan for the next 24 days of the $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge.

1. Build my understanding of keyword research, this process is key to search engine optimization and the profitably of Internet profit systems.

2. Try and visit my favourite forums as often as possible – I have found that forums have been one of my most successful forms of traffic generation, receiving just a few visits as a day as a result of my forum signature will help protect the ranking of some of my webpages.

And that’s it. Christmas is for family. When I return it will be Day 40 of the Internet profit systems challenge and I will have just 26 days to turn webpages into dollar signs.

Accepted by Demand Studios

Day 11 – $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge

Yesterday I was accepted by Demand Studios! The editorial team have accepted my application and I am now a member of “a select group of writers who produce high quality articles for several brand-name websites on the Internet”.

It all sounds very grand but the bottom line is that now I have been accepted by Demand Studios I have a very real opportunity to create an extra income writing with eHow. Not only does this mean that I can start to make more money relatively quickly it also means that I can start to create a residual or passive income. The perfect for kind of income for a busy stay at home Mum.

What is Demand Studios?

Demand Studios is a content provider. They provide content to a number of websites including eHow, which just happens to be one of the most visited sites in the US. Demand Studios use a bank of freelance writers whom they pay for writing articles on a range of topics, in a variety of formats.

Joining Demand Studios, Writing with eHow

Applications to start writing with eHow are made and managed via Demand Studios. Both websites have built their reputation on the quality of the content they offer, Demand Studios maintains this standard through a relatively rigorous selection process which requires applicants to have a specific level of experience and expertise.

You can access the application form through either the eHow homepage or by heading straight to the Demand Studios website. Completion requires that you submit a relevant resume and a writing sample.

My application was processed in approximately 24 hours and once I had received the e-mail informing me that I had been accepted by Demand Studios I was able to log in to the site and head straight to My Work Desk.

Before you Start Writing with eHow

Accepted by Demand Studios

The Demand Studios Work Desk

Once you have been accepted by Demand Studios and before you can get into full swing writing with eHow, you must complete a series of freshman tasks. Initially a bio must be created which highlights your professional experience.  Receiving approval of the bio can sometimes be harder than being accepted by Demand Studios in the first place – my first bio has already been rejected, let’s hope the next one meets the mark.

Freshman writers must then complete their first three assignments under the guidance of an editor. Each article is reviewed and feedback provided before publication. Freshmen are strongly advised to wait for the feedback from their first assignment before starting the second.

At this stage you cannot assign your own article title and must select from those available through the find assignments interface.  In my opinion this limits the titles available to a freshman writer and may make those first few assignments harder than most. But, this is the process that has to be followed if you are to gain your spurs as an eHow writer and so I have claimed my first assignment from the available list. I now have seven days to deliver against the title “How to make a Solar Panel from a Domestic Radiator”.

How will I earn an extra income writing with eHow and Demand Studio?Writing with eHow

In the first instance an eHow writer earns an extra income by being paid a fixed fee for a published article.  After review and fact checking by a copy editor, the article (previously selected and claimed through the find assignments interface) is published and payment is processed with the average fee for a 400 – 500 word article being $15.

Now let’s do the math. At $15 per article, working a five day week I would need to publish 8 or 9 articles per day to earn approximately  $30,000 per year. As a stay at home Mum this really isn’t the passive income I am looking for.  So why am I so excited about being accepted by Demand Studios and the eHow opportunity?

Building an eHow Residual Income

By all accounts the eHow revenue share program is the best on the net. In other words it seems like eHow is the writing site with the biggest pay offer.

Once I have completed my first three articles I will have full Work Desk access which includes the option to create my own article titles on subjects of my choice, titles which can then be submitted for payment via the eHow revenue share program.

Writers build their eHow residual income by being paid relative to the number of times the article is viewed and for as long as articles continue to live on the web and be of interest to readers the writer will continue to be paid. On this model an optimized article, targeting a well chosen keyword niche has the potential to earn far more than $15.  Indeed I have come across many reports of writers receiving over $200 for just one article over a twelve month period.  All of a sudden, requiring just 150 articles rather than 2,340, $30,000 a year seems so much more achievable.

By becoming an active member of the eHow revenue share program it’s relatively easy to create a passive income and that’s why I’m so excited to have been accepted by Demand Studios.

Stay at home Mum too busy to seek an extra income!

Day 6 – $66 Internet Profit Systems Challenge

It’s official, today this stay at home Mum is too busy to earn an extra income. Swimming lessons, the mountain of washing, tidy up, whip round with the Dyson, make the beds, cook the dinner, bath the kids and time for bed.

Today I have only managed to find an hour to try and kick start my online efforts so that they start to make more money. This raises a very important question:

What is the best use of time if you can only work on your internet profit systems for an hour a day?

In this post I don’t have the answer, I can only tell you where I chose to focus my extra income efforts…

A quick check on Squidoo to update my income report (still nothing) and visit the Squidoo forum. Yesterday I asked more experienced Squiders than I to give me some feedback on my lens – Internet profit systems – it was encouraging to receive some great feedback.

I used some of my 60 minutes to finish the blog post I didn’t have time to finish yesterday – How to Publish a Press Release Online for Free.

And I paid a visit to my favourite work from home forum – Work at Home Forum – to post the question “what is the best use of time if you can only work on your internet profit systems for an hour a day?”. I have learnt a huge amount participating in this forum and would recommend it to anybody who is looking to start to make more money

In my opinion if you only have a short amount of time forums are a great place to focus your efforts. Why? Because every time you post and add your signature you are creating a clickable link, a backlink to your site or webpage. That’s my view, but let’s see what the experts say, I’ll be back with news from the forums when I have it.

In the meantime, back to the dishes!
